Listen to the Ground

Night Fever by The Bee Gees has been in my playlist for the last couple of weeks.

I am still a Ride or Die Goth guy and More Punk Rock Than Thou, and am going to pretend there is no contradiction between these facts and The Bee Gees, dig?

The first verse of Night Fever is:

Listen to the ground,

There is music all around,

There is something going down,

And I can feel it.

The line “listen to the ground” made me think of the old western movies where an Indian tracker would put his ear to the ground for a minute, and say, “Six men on horses one mile west. One has a sprained ankle and two need to shave. They’re going to have steaks for dinner.”

Or Aragorn at the beginning of The Two Towers putting his ear to the ground and saying “The Uruks have quickened their pace. No more than a day ahead of us. Quickly Gimli, we must run.”

I picture Barry Gibb, in his white Disco Suit, putting his ear to the ground on some New York sidewalk and saying, “Three Discos in a one block radius. All three have disco rounds, but only one has one of those checkerboard floors with the colored lights. That one has a special on Pina Coladas by the pitcher. That is where we dance.”`
