Flinging Satellites into Space

So this is kind of awesome.

This company is trying a new approach to putting satellites into orbit. Instead of burning hundreds of thousands of gallons of rocket fuel (the video claims it’s fifteen-thousand gallons per second, which adds up quickly) for a rocket launch, they’re accelerating the launch vehicle at high speeds on the ground and then using a much smaller rocket to complete the journey once it’s up in the atmosphere.

The video is a YouTube short and comes in a 59 seconds in length.

If you’re absolutely fascinated and want more information, here’s a link to the company’s website.

I note that they were named one of the most influential companies of 2022, so this isn’t a new thing. I guess I’ll be filing this as one of those things that managed to slip by me while my attention was elsewhere. I like tech. I like space. Tech related to space is BOOM!
