I Can Help

An oldie, but a goody, from back in the days when one hit wonders got turned into commercials for cleaning products rather than forgotten entirely.

I don’t know if that’s actually a better fate or not, it just seemed like the point to make. I mean there’s the financial payoff, which isn’t a bad thing, but there’s also having to see this work of art you created being used as a theme for someone wiping up messes.

Maybe that’s a win/win. I really have no idea. It’s a good song though. That brassy guitar rhythm is awesome.

I have always thought one thing was a little weird about this song. In the first verse, he’s talking about helping and mentions that he has “two strong arms”. So it’s not too serious. Maybe he’s offering to help someone move, or help with the gardening or maybe beat up a bully.

Then in the second verse, he jumps right to “if your child needs a dad, I can help”.

It’s like wow, that escalated quickly. That’s a lot of commitment to just throw out there. Though it does seem later like he might be singing to one lady in particular, so maybe that’s just what he was ready to do.

Or maybe he’s offering to help clean up any and all messes. Two strong arms, child needs a dad, cleaning product commercial.
