I don’t have time to work on this today, but it popped into my head and I wanted to check on it before I forgot. My family started to research this a couple of decades ago, but didn’t get too far.
It occurred to me that search engines have improved dramatically in that time, and AI has made them significantly more informative about complex question even in the last 6 months.
I can good answers right now that I couldn’t get this time last year.
The question I asked was:
my house is 125 years old and was built by my native american ancestors. are there programs to help me get funding to restore the house? does it qualify as historically significant?
That question gave me an affirmative answer, which included 7 specific links that I can follow right now for more information. There is also an option to ask a follow up and get more in-depth information.
In short, this might be possible now.
If anyone who is reading this knows about these things, I am definitely interested in any direct knowledge that might prove helpful. Comment below for now. I’ll get some contact information added to the contact page as soon as possible.
I have a picture of this house from 1943, with a stamp on the back giving the date it was taken and the company who took it. I have photos of this house that I know are older than that, just by who is in them and certain things about the house (the door being in back) but don’t know just how old they are.
That’s a start. I have my cards for Cherokee Nation and Shawnee Tribe, which they ask for.
